I guess you've all heard the news by now. That Jerry passed away this morning with Nancy holding his hand, surrounded by friends and family. This is the hardest post I've ever made. Jerry was my best friend and we've been racing together for the past 28 years. One thing about racing with Jerry is that he loved to have fun doing it. When everybody else was all tense and taking things too serious, Jerry would always come up with some kind of joke. You can imagine his brother Maxwell, Don Crisp, Terry and myself on Saturday nights enjoying the festivities and all the other racers there, passing around a bottle of Jose Quervo. And Jerry with his Miller light. Sometimes we didn't get the motor fixed till early Sunday morning... (ha, ha)..... We were definitely the War Party team..........When I talked to Don Crisp this morning, he said and I quote "at least Don Ermshire is not waiting in heaven at the holding rope by himself" Jerry loved racing against Don. He was also the happiest when we drew Don to race especially the first round. We had a lot of fun together. 28 years of stories and joy and happiness that Jery has brought to my life and everyone elses. he will dearly be missed.......Bobby

As most of you know I am very close to Nancy and Jerry, they are the ones who talked me into running my first race. Jerry told me how much fun I would have and most of all the wonderfull people I would meet. I knew it must be true becase of all the passion he had as he was telling me about it. Every time I went to Conroe to see my boys I would try to stop by to see them. I am so glad I was able to see him last weekend. Even tho he was not feeling well he was the same ole Jerry Davis, cutting jokes and smiling. He said he missed having a cold one. I am so glad I saw him and had time to visit and kiss his cheek. You will be truly missed my friend. Nancy is such a beautiful woman inside and out. She did all she could to make Jerry happy in his last days on earth. I am here for you Nancy, just call. To all the War Party Team and our boat racing family it is with a heavy heart I say good by Jerry for now. I know you are always with us. See ya on the holding rope in the sky. Theresa Ward

Although I haven't been racing for quite a few years, my memories of Jerry, & the entire War Party crew go back to Jerry's Comp Flat days. Jerry was such a humble racer in all aspects. You never heard him slinging comments, or making excuses. I smile when I think of Jerry, & that is all anyone could ask from friends in his or her life. Rest in peace Jerry, & Nancy I hope you know that you are loved by all. Ron Sapp

While we all know that the cancer that Jerry battled these past few months is a tough one to deal with, we all watched him fight it with a strong determination to do things his way.
All of us will remember his smile and his gentle spirit.
As I have been putting together a slideshow from the "Old Days" for the upcoming SDBA Banquet, this photo was sent to me by Justin Chandler.
Other than remembering his pedaling the War Party TAF down the track, I think that this is how we will all remember one of the great ones....
Thoughts and Prayers to Nancy, Max, Don and All of the Tribe.

Our hearts are saddened. Jerry was the type of individual you could go to and ask advice or borrow a part. We will miss him. Our racing family has had to deal with so many losses, however, God keeps us together to help each other.
Nancy we are here for you.

Very saddened of this news. Jerry was and always will be a Champion in all our hearts. He left this earth with yet another award presented to him. Last night here at the IHBA banquet he was the first ever recipient of the “Don Ermshare Memorial Award”. However, he received even a better award when he went home to be with our Lord and was told…..”WELL DONE THOU GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVENT”. He will be missed but never never forgotten. W e love and will be praying for Nancy and family.

A few years ago I was in entrance road line for the Finals with Richard Tippett and Nancy and Jerry pulled up in their rig. We all said good morning and from that point forward he treated me as someone he had known for a long time. He even gave me personal advice on a flat that I was considering to buy. Oh what a loss this must be for Nancy and my heart goes out to her. Being on the East Coast I will not be there physically, but I will stand beside her in spirit for as long as she needs me. God bless and be with you, Nancy I am holding you tight in my arms in spirit. Feel comfort and peace from all of us in your dragboat family.

This is a very sad day. We have been praying for Jerry every day. I know that he is in the arms of the lord right now. We will continue to hold Nancy up in prayer as she is dealing with the loss of her best friend. Hold a spot on the holding rope for each of us Jerry. We miss you, boat racing will never be the same. We are very saddened to hear that Jerry lost his courageous battle with cancer. Nancy you are uppermost in our prayers during this most difficult tme and the months ahead. I have been reflecting on talks Jerry and I had over last summer about this horrible disease we shared. He was always worried about my progress, diagnosis and course of action and I felt a lot of strength after a hug from him as he prepared for the weekend doing what he loved so much and I did the same. Godspeed Jerry we will miss you more than you could ever know. Love to Nancy and the entire War Party family.
